Healthy Easter Basket Ideas

When you don’t want too much sugar and dye…

Easter brings new beginnings!

Every Easter I cringe at the thought of my kids eating way too much sugar! I’m okay with some sweets and good chocolate, but I love to bake so I’d rather most of their sugar intake come from my homemade desserts.

Although, I do let them be kids and have a fun Easter basket! My kids are dairy and gluten free so it can be a bit harder to find stuff for them! It might sound crazy, but one year my kids were really into the Peter rabbit cartoon so I put in their Easter baskets a small bunch of radishes and carrots with there green leaves and the kids loved it! Here are some of my ideas that I have used over the years. Some you will notice are for older kids or teens.

  • seed packet of carrots
  • small potted strawberry plant
  • a new book
  • face wash or face mask
  • hair ties or head band
  • stationary set
  • garden hand tools
  • stuffed animal
  • a small bunch of carrots with leafy tops
  • dark chocolate
  • organic suckers
  • organic gummy bunnies
  • organic cheddar bunnies (if your not GF)
  • organic jelly beans
  • vitamin C gummies in bulk section
  • gum
  • color books
  • markers or crayons
  • bubble bath or body wash
  • a kite
  • beach towel
  • body lotion
  • chapstick or lip gloss
  • small windmill
  • seed packets for planting flowers
  • gift certificates

I hope these ideas help you get creative and come up with a fun solution to your kids Easter baskets! Another fun tip is to put money in plastic eggs instead of candy. It can just be change or dollar bills or both! We like to do mostly all real hard boiled eggs in our egg hunt! We don’t do any eggs filled with candy and our kids love it even the teenagers!

  1. Those are great ideas!! Veggie and flower seeds are perfect for children to be able to learn to grow something themselves, even if it’s just pots on a deck ! Everyone can do it! Their own pack of gum is always a treat! There’s nothing worse than an Easter Basket full of sugar an food dyes etc… 🤓

  2. What great Easter basket ideas! Seed packets would be fun, now is the perfect time to plant! There could even be brightly colored pots added in! Also a whole pack of gum ! Thanks for sharing your wonderful list of ideas ! So much better than loads of sugar and dyes!😍
