Spring Flowers

April brings Lilacs…

I am blessed with a beautiful white Lilac bush in my yard and two more smaller purple ones. This time of year is my favorite with all the spring time fragrant flowers blooming that take no watering at all from me! So easy and hardly any maintenance to keep them healthy.

Did you know many of the Lilacs bushes growing in America today are over two hundred years old? Needless to say they have been around for a long time. They only need to be pruned about once every ten years! When you do cut some of there beautiful blooms be sure to cut them where one or two more branches or leaves split. Always cut the brow flowers off because it takes so much of the bushes energy to make it go to seed. So removing the dead flowers before it goes to seed will ensure lots more beautiful blooms next year! Also, keeping them in well drained soil is best. I lost one of mine because of too much rain runoff puddling at the foot of it.

Happy Spring
