Homemade Natural Laundry Detergent

I love this homemade natural laundry Detergent because it works so well!

You might be wondering why you would ever need another chore, like making your own laundry detergent, in this day and age? Well, my reasonings here are because, I don’t use chemical laundry detergents, I don’t like the lack in quality of store bought natural detergents, it saves you money, and you can scent it as you like with natural essential oils!

It does take a few minutes but, that’s it! It is so quick to mix and dissolve all in a bucket or large glass jar full of hot water. Once you get in the routine of making it as you start to get low on your current batch it really is no chore at all.

I am someone who enjoys doing laundry and I actually really enjoy making my laundry detergent! It smells so good and adding beneficial essential oils makes it very enjoyable!

I’m someone who can’t stand the chemical smell left behind from conventional mainstream laundry detergents! I can smell them from a mile away! lol My kids can too! If your not use to breathing in those parabens then you really notice it! To be honest I feel like I am a laundry detergent snob! Hahaha I just love stuff that’s natural, works, and smells good!

Here is the natural homemade laundry detergent after t has cooled.

The salt in this laundry detergent recipe is to brighten clothes! That being said, it is optional, it’s not necessary for clean clothes!

A glass jar with a the spout is very cute to add to your laundry room, but the fact of the matter is that once this liquid laundry detergent cools it thickens and sometimes is clumpy. When you first mix it, it’s clear liquid and is tempting to put it in a cute glass jar. I recommend putting it in an old laundry detergent bottle or something that you can stir it up in or shake it as it gets cold and clumpy. Don’t worry it still works great either way, clumpy or clear liquid!

How I Know This Works

I started making this homemade natural laundry detergent about two years ago. I’ve been using natural detergent for about 13 years now. I often struggled with the effectiveness of the detergents I was buying. I also wanted my laundry to smell nice afterwards and most of the time it smelt like nothing.

Now, I have four kids and we live in the country on acreage. We are a motocross family and also have a pump track. We garden and my kids love to roam the land, tracks, and trails from our home to my mother in laws, which is nearby. We live down a dirt road and my husband works outdoors. He gets very dirty and sweaty working in the warmer months and muddy in the winter. We have four dogs, chickens, rabbits, and cats. Our clothes get dirty, very dirty! And I swear by this laundry detergent!

Right after having my fourth baby I decided I was going to give it a try! Making my own laundry detergent! I did some research and came up with this mix. There are several different ways of making laundry detergent, but this recipe seemed most appealing to me.

Once I made it I realized how quick and easy it is to make and I loved that it was natural and smelled so good!

After using it for a little over one year I decided to go back to store bought and give myself a little break. I bought the mainstream natural brand I would get at Costco and I was so disappointed once I used it!

I could smell the grubby odor left in the clothes I had just washed! I went to smell the clothes as I took them out of the washing machine and they stunk! By the time they were done in the dryer they smelt okay, but I knew they weren’t really clean.

I could see that they looked dingy and just not clean! That was it for me I reordered my supply for homemade detergent and here I am with happy clean clothes that smell great!

Here are some of the supplies you will need!

Stain Remover!

I have to share with you this simple stain remover! What I do together out stains is sprinkle the affected area with baking soda and with a soft brush brush it in then add a splash of vinegar. Let that fizz up and sit for at least an hour if not longer! This works wonders for me! Then proceed to wash as normal.

If you have any questions for plan to make this please leave me a comment and let me know what you think!
